Clima Customer Spotlight: Halite

Founded in 2006 in Norway, Halite is a veteran-owned company specializing in the development and production of equipment for military and expedition teams operating in the world’s harshest environments. The company works on a consultancy basis, offering clients their assistance and expertise at different stages of product development, or oversees the entire process from the initial idea and design to mass production. 

Working behind the scenes with some of the world’s most elite military forces and outdoor explorers, Halite’s technical luggage systems have traveled to the farthest corners of the world, from freezing arctic waters to the Himalayas. In addition, a select range of cutting-edge Halite products are available for purchase, including heavy-duty backpacks, gear bags, and sleeping solutions. 

An experienced team of ex-military special operations staff was brought in-house to collaborate with Halite to create their unique sleeping bag range. The resulting OverBag system became the company’s novel answer to the problems of sleeping in extremely cold and wet conditions. It is designed to be used with a range of Halite’s Recce sleeping bags, available both with down and synthetic filling, but can equally be put over any expedition-style bag.

Halite’s synthetic-filled bags maintain a temperature rating of -11° C / 12° F with an extreme limit of -29° C / -20.2°F, incorporating Climashield® APEX with Aquaban® DWR technology. When compared with other synthetics on the market, it demonstrates excellent water retention that allows for an increased warmth-to-weight ratio even when wet, a reduced drying time, and a broadened scope of use. In addition, the continuous filament insulation from Climashield is highly packable, and resistant to both compression and multiple wash cycles, making it overall the best sleeping solution for SOF units.

The Recce Synth 3 Pro is sewn entirely from highly durable Pertex Quantum fabrics. The bag features additional insulation in the footbox, a 3D hood, and comes with a stuff sack. It is available in two sizes (regular and long) and weighs in at a mere 1640g / 3.62lbs for the regular size. The color range includes Crocodile, Multicam and Multicam Alpine. Designed to go over any sleeping bag, the Climashield-insulated Halite Overbag Pro provides an additional 14° C /  57.2° F temperature rating. This unique, cost-effective solution is capable of transforming a three-season sleeping bag into a winter bag, and a winter bag into an expedition-grade bag. In addition, designed with the same attention to detail as any Halite sleeping bag, the Overbag Pro can also be used as a standalone warm-weather solution.
