Climashield FAQs
Due to thousands of interlocking fibers, Climashield’s continuous filament insulation delivers exceptional thermal efficiency by trapping air and minimizing heat transfer, providing maximum warmth at lighter weights. It’s also very durable, maintaining its loft and thermal efficiency over time even after repeated use and washings, crucial for products that are frequently packed and unpacked.
Cost is a major differentiator. High-quality or ethically sourced down is typically 5 times more expensive than synthetic insulation. The costs go beyond just the raw material – complex construction methods (like baffles) are required to keep down evenly distributed in a jacket or sleeping bag. In contrast, Climashield® is engineered for streamlined construction — no baffles, no cold spots — helping manufacturers reduce both material and labor costs in synthetic insulated jackets.
Climashield® excels in wet conditions. Unlike down, which loses loft and warmth when wet, Climashield® continues to insulate effectively in humid or damp environments — even after repeated exposure to sweat or moisture. While down can be treated to become more water resistant, those coatings degrade over time, limiting long-term performance. Climashield insulation remains reliable, fast-drying, and thermally stable, making it the preferred choice for high-intensity activities, unpredictable climates, and rugged field use.

Climashield® features a continuous filament polyester structure, where fibers run uninterrupted across the entire insulation layer. This contrasts with cut staple insulation, which is composed of short fibers that must be mechanically entangled or bonded — often using low-melt fibers or scrims — to maintain structure and strength. While Climashield® also incorporates a light bonding agent, it serves only to aid in handling and processing, not to hold the insulation together.
Thanks to its continuous fiber network, Climashield resists clumping, fiber migration, and structural breakdown — even after repeated compression, wash cycles, or prolonged storage. Unlike staple fibers, the continuous structure prevents layers from settling into one another, and its hollow fiber design delivers superior performance, even at zero loft. The result is greater thermal efficiency at any given weight. Climashield’s structural integrity also simplifies the construction of sleeping bags and outerwear, as it can be quilted or sewn directly without the need for stabilizers, scrims, or baffles; this streamlines production while reducing cold spots and manufacturing costs.

Yes — Climashield® is committed to sustainability at every level, from product development to manufacturing – our commitment goes beyond insulation to include responsible sourcing, efficient, low-waste production, and ongoing investment in eco-friendly material innovation. Just as important, all Climashield® insulation is engineered to last — providing season-after-season durability that reduces the need for frequent replacement and helps lower long-term environmental impact.
We have two products that specifically highlight sustainability:
- Climashield® ECO is made from post-consumer recycled polyester, offering the same thermal performance and resilience as virgin fiber while supporting circularity in material use.
- Climashield® APEX 360 combines the proven performance of APEX with advanced sustainable technologies designed to minimize the accumulation of non-biodegradable waste.
