Based right down the road from Climashield in Knoxville, Tennessee, Valley Apparel is a small, family-owned business. Grown from John Niethammer’s (1938-2020) lifelong experience in US Government contracting, today the company remains in the hands of the founder’s children, continuing an uninterrupted manufacturing tradition. In the last 17 years of trading under the Valley Apparel LLC brand, the company has manufactured over 3 million garments ordered by the US Department of Defense.
Deeply rooted in serving the US Military, Valley Apparel has delivered technical garments to all branches of the US Armed Forces, as well as numerous foreign militaries around the world (export approved by the US government). With seam-seal and fire-resistant items being the primary focus, Valley Apparel also produces a wide range of other technical apparel types and accessories as the demand continues to grow both domestically and internationally.
Valley Apparel partners with Climashield on Gen III Layer 7 for the US Military and MIL-SPEC commercial opportunities such as the N-3B Cold Weather Parka, intended for extremely cold temperatures. With over 30 years of experience developing for the US Military, Climashield manufactures our signature insulation to achieve durable warmth so gear can withstand the extreme conditions without packing on pounds.
Committed to only using the best fabrics and materials, the company also works with other industry leaders – including Gore-Tex and Dupont – to create Berry-compliant garments for the harshest combat environments on the planet.

From sewing machine operators to administrative and management officers, all employees specialize in working with and to the specifications set by The Defense Logistics Agency.
